 1) die, -/-s, Musik: Fantasy ['fæntəsɪ], die der Geschichte der musikalischen Fantasie zugehörige Hauptform der englischen Kammermusik von etwa 1575 bis 1680. Sie entwickelte sich aus dem instrumentalen Vortrag von Motetten und gelangte durch Einführung instrumental geprägter Motivik, Wechsel von imitierenden und homophonen Abschnitten, Aufnahme von Tanz- und Variationsformen zu einer selbstständigen Gattung, zunächst vornehmlich bestimmt für Violenensemble oder Tasteninstrumente, später gab es auch gemischte Besetzungen und die Einbeziehung konzertierender Instrumente. Fancys schrieben W. Byrd, T. Morley, O. Gibbons, T. Tomkins und H. Purcell.
 
 2) der oder das, -(s), Textilwesen: dichter, beidseitig gerauter Baumwollflanell mit meliertem Vigognegarn (Fancygarn) im Schuss.
